Linitzer - Eric Kam - 29 January, 2023

Our speaker for January is Dr. Eric Kam, Associate Professor of Economics at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University). He will be speaking about where the Canadian economy is going in the future:

Canada is experiencing a post-pandemic period dominated by high inflation. Economists argue rising prices are the result of supply chain problems, high energy prices, Russia’s war on Ukraine, labour shortages and money transfers during the pandemic. To fix inflation, central banks around the world turned to aggressive interest rate increases and the Bank of Canada was no exception. We raised the key interest rate from 0.25% in March to 4.25% over 2022.
What is inflation, what does inflation fighting do to our economy, and how will this impact the economic outlook?

This is good information to have for the start of 2023 and we hope you will join us.
